CHESAPEAKE -- A fire in the Indian River section of the city put a man and a woman out of their home Sunday night.

A call about the fire in the 1400 block of Willow Avenue came into dispatchers at 9:17 p.m.

Firefighters got to the one-story home four minutes later and saw flames coming from it.

Crews had the fire under control at 9:31 p.m.

Although the kitchen was the only room with fire damage, there was smoke damage throughout the home.

Firefighters gave oxygen to a dog that seemed to be suffering from smoke inhalation. Chesapeake Animal Control took the dog to an emergency veterinarian for further treatment.

The two people who were displaced arranged lodging in the area.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
