VIRGINIA BEACH-- A dog that was shot during the burglary of a Norfolk boat yard early Friday morning in Norfolk has undergone emergency surgery.

Breezeway, a five-year-old, female American pit bull, was guarding Norfolk Marine located at 5221 East Virginia Beach Boulevard when burglars allegedly shot her twice before stealing five boats on trailers, according to John Farlow, the service director at Norfolk Marine.

Norfolk Animal Control found Breezeway and brought her to Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners Emergency Hospital in Virginia Beach, where she had surgery to remove the two bullets.

The dog made it through surgery and is now resting.  It could be released on Saturday, according to the vet hospital.

According to Farlow, police are investigating and Norfolk Marine has surveillance video of the suspects.

Police spokesman Officer Chris Amos says the suspects in two pickup trucks went to Norfolk Marine three times during the night.  Surveillance camera images show the trucks towing some of the boats from the property.
