12:45 p.m. UPDATE: Other pets in the house survived: a cat and two dogs, thanks to the use of pet oxygen masks obtained from the Project Breathe Program from the Invisible Fence Co., fire officials said.
The fire started accidentally due to combustible items being in contact with the grate on the furnace floor. Fire burned a 3-foot hole in the area of the floor furnace and extended into the closet.
Fire also damaged a floor joist.

HAMPTON-A woman escaped fire in her Hampton home early Friday, but her dog and cat didn't survive.

Firefighters were called to Charles Street around 1:00 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
