CURRITUCK CO.-- Students and staff at Currituck County High School were evacuted Wednesday afternoon after an alleged threat was made against the school.
Police say the evacuation lasted 40 minutes and was a precautionary measure.
Officials say the school was also on lockdown as a part of the evacuation process. Parents or visitors were not permitted to enter the school during the evacuation. Also, since it was close to dismissal, the school could not release students from campus until the building was secured.
Parents were notified of the situation using an automated alert system.
The Currituck County Sheriff’s Department assisted with a sweep of the building and cleared it for students and staff to return at about 3:05 p.m.
Students were released to go home shortly after their normal dismissal time.
Administrators say they will be investigating the incident.
