VIRGINIA BEACH--A school crossing guard was hit by a car around 3:15pm Thursday in the  4500 block of Princess Anne Road.   The female Deputy Sheriff was working for Catholic High School directing traffic as school let out, when the accident occurred. The guard was wearing full traffic directing gear and was setting up in the middle of the street  to direct students.   An elderly man drove his car up behind her, hitting her in the back.  She went up onto his hood and then fell to the roadway.  She was taken to the hospital with intense pain and possible broken bones but her injuries were not life threatening.

87 yr old  James Holloway, a Va. Beach resident, was charged with disregarding a crossing guard. He was operating a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis.
