UNDATED-We now know who'll be running to fill the 6th District Senate seat .

Thursday's Republican canvass ended with Wayne Coleman getting the nomination.  On his Facebook page, Coleman wrote "Honored by the outpouring of support in our victory tonight! Thank you all for your support, the real work begins now! We must unite as a party to win this seat!"

Democrats on November 16 chose Del. Lynwood Lewis.

The seat is open because Ralph Northam was elected lieutenant governor.

A date for the special election cannot be set until Northam resigns or announces his last day in office.

The 6th District covers Accomack County, Mathews County, Northampton County and parts of Norfolk and Va. Beach.
