PORTSMOUTH -- A recreational boater who had sustained a laceration to his leg was medevaced by a Coast Guard helocopter Saturday afternoon.
According to a news release, the 22 foot boat was near the Bonner Bridge shortly after 3 p.m. when they were contacted by Dare County Emergency Services, which reported that the owner of the boat had suffered a laceration to his leg and was in need of medical assistance.
A small boat and a MH-60 helicopter were both dispatched to the scene. The small boat arrived to find a good samaritan offering assistance. The water was too shallow to attempt a transfer from one boat to another, and they were attempting to tow the boat to deeper water when the helicopter arrived and they opted to have him hoisted aboard and transported by air.
The injured man was flown to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center, arriving there at about 5 p.m., where they transferred the man to the care of hospital personnel.
No other information about his condition was provided.
