HAMPTON-It is going to, quite literally, rain on several parades on Saturday.
Because of that, Hampton cancelled Saturday night's Holly Days Parade. The Downtown Suffolk Holiday Parade and Surry County's Parks and Rec were also cancelled on Saturday.
"Most of Saturday morning should be dry. We expect showers to develop late morning in Northeastern North Carolina and rain will overspread the entire region during the afternoon. Some of that will fall as heavy rain," said 13News Now meteorologist Julie Wilcox.
Poquoson moved its lighted boat parade to Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as the weather should be much improved by then.
"This is the first time in over a decade - since 2001 - that the Holly Days Parade has had to be cancelled," City of Hampton spokesman Fred Gaskins told WVEC.com
The city's First Light Celebration, commemorating the first recorded English Christmas in North America, will go on as scheduled Saturday. The free event takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There will be stories, ornament making, music and karaoke caroling at the free event. The sixth annual celebration concludes with the lighting of the blue star atop the Hampton History Museum at 120 Old Hampton Lane in downtown.
