10/14 Noon UPDATE: Flowers had been left at the scene Monday and the tire tracks from where the car went off the road and hit the tree were still visible in the median.

VIRGINIA BEACH-- Police say a child died in a single vehicle crash Friday night.

Officers got the call around 5:46 p.m. for the crash near the intersection of First Colonial Road and Paramore Drive.  The vehicle was occupied by the driver and two passengers.

12-year-old Michael Chao Fang of Virginia Beach died at the hospital. The second passenger was treated for injuries and was expected to recover.

Fatal Crash Team investigators have determined that the vehicle was traveling southbound on First Colonial Road,  went through a curve and then lost control.  The vehicle struck a tree in the median and continued across the northbound lane and struck another tree.

Police say speed was a factor.
