CHESAPEAKE---The Dominion Boulevard widening project, which begin in January, is taking a toll on nearby Chesapeake businesses.

The busy two-lane stretch of roadway is being widened to four lanes and a new span is being replaced on the Steel Bridge.

Drivers can expect to see improved traffic flow at one of the worst bottlenecks in the region when construction finishes in 2017.

Some business owners say they've seen a sharp decrease in business and they aren't sure if they'll make it another three years.

"They said something about 2017 before they are finished," said Daniel Sorrell. "Until then it's going to be bad."

City leaders plan to have signs directing customers to business entrances, but outside of that, they say there isn't much else they can do.
