HAMPTON - A car burst into flames when it ran into a gas pump at a Hampton gas station Friday afternoon.

13News viewers sent us images of the fire and a burned vehicle at the Exxon station at Mercury Blvd. and Big Bethel Road.

Fire officials there was a two-vehicle accident and one of the cars hit the gas pumps. That started a small fire which quickly grew as the gasoline ignited.

Fire officials say that driver was taken to the hospital for treatment of a minor cut. Everyone in the other vehicle escaped without injuries.

As of 1:30 p.m., Mercury Blvd. eastbound at Martha Lee Drive was closed for the investigation. Click here to check the traffic at the intersection of Mercury and Big Bethel.

At the Shell gas station across the street, the owner told WVEC.com she shut down the pumps as a precaution.
