VIRGINIA BEACH-- Lines continued to grow Thursday night as area stores opened early to get a jump on Black Friday. Some stores like Toys R Us, Kmart, and Sears were opening at 8 p.m.
At other stores like Best Buy, people waited for the doors to open at midnight, many huddled in tents.
“I’ve got my sleeping bag, we got food, we’re all set,” says Linda Montalvo. She's been camping in line at Best Buy on Independence Boulevard in Virginia Beach since Wednesday and it’s not even for her own shopping list.
“I’m here for my little brother, he wanted to stay out here and I didn’t want him to stay out here in this weather,” says Montalvo.
As Thanksgiving day went on, something of a tribe formed out front of Best Buy.
“Talking to all the fellas out here, guys and gals, just chillin,” says Dave Bonham. He says people in line around him are happy to save his spot when he needs a bathroom break.
For some, the Black Friday wait wasn’t quite so social.
Brothers Able and Louis Alvarez were all alone most of the say at the Toys-R-Us on Military Highway in Norfolk.
