FRANKLIN - Authorities say a woman who was caring for a bed-ridden man beat him and robbed him.

Southampton Co. Sheriff's deputies arrested 31-year-old Erica Shandrika Bradshaw for the July 1 attack on 67-year-old Philip Everett in his home on Carter St.

Everett, who is paralyzed from the neck down, was hit over the head with a piece of wood, authorities stated.

Bradshaw is the person who called authorities to report the incident, Major Gene Drewery told WVEC.com.

Investigators say they found that the power and phone lines to the home had been cut.

Deputies said Bradshaw stole a large amount of money Everett kept in the home.

Drewery said the family met Bradshaw through a friend and didn't conduct a background check. She had a previous marijuana conviction.

She's charged with attempted murder, burglary with the intent to commit murder and grand larceny.
