Newport News house fire
NEWPORT NEWS -- A barking dog alerted its owner to fire, Newport News fire investigators say.
Crews were called to the 700 block of Leonard Lane around 7:25 a.m. and they found smoke coming from the single-story home.
Investigators say the fire was caused by an overloaded electrical outlet in the living room.
No one was hurt.
It was the second accidental house fire in the city.
Fire officials remind city residents that the department will install free smoke alarms.
