VIRGINIA BEACH -- After some protests in Norfolk on Monday, protesters from Westboro Baptist Church in Kansas will demonstrate in Virginia Beach Tuesday, targeting Landstown High School with their verbal tirades.
Protesters will not be allowed on school property, and parents and students have been warned about their visit.
In a letter, the principal has asked students to avoid any interaction or confrontation with the protestors, by simply giving them the silent treatment.
After the protests in Norfolk, it is clear that those who oppose the message of the protesters far outweigh those who agree.
"I don't believe in that gay stuff, but that's them I let them do whatever they want," said Anthony cox, one of the counter-protesters.
"They have every right to say what they're saying but what they're saying is completely wrong," said Frances Grinnan, another counter-protester.
Margie Phelps, a member of Westboro Baptist Church said, "These are a brutish, violent, cursed, miserable people, look at these high school students, look at the legacy left by their parents who hate them."
Apart from their words, the demonstrations have been peaceful, but police patrols have been stepped up just in case.
The public's response to the protesters has included all kinds of alternative signs and slogans, with reactions ranging from amusement to pity.
"I know they're crazy so I figured I'd come and show everybody they're crazy that is driving by," said Brittany Guido, a counter-protester.
The church plans to pickett several other places in virginia Beach Tuesday.
On Wednesday, in what may be their most controversial move, they plan to protest at the funeral service of Marine Lance Corporal Kielin Dunn, who was killed in Afghanistan.
