SUFFOLK--A suspect has been arrested for allegedly starting a fire in a vacant apartment in Suffolk.

Police arrested 27-year-old Dwayne Eddie Goodman, Jr., of Suffolk Thursday and charged him with arson, destruction of property and breaking and entering.

Police say on March 6, residents at the Suffolk Station Apartments, located in the 1200 block of Forest Oak Lane, complained of smoke around 6 a.m.

Officers said they could  see smoke coming from the inside the vacant apartment, as well as soot covered windows and melted mini-blinds.

Firefighters extinguished the fire, which was limited to one apartment.

Goodman is currently being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail on a no-bond status.
