SALISBURY, N.C. -- Salisbury Police are investigating a shooting at Salisbury High School in North Carolina on Monday.
Police say a shooting occurred in the area of the gymnasium, behind the high school, after classes dismissed for the day, around 3 p.m.
Authorities say they believe the incident is connected to an altercation that occurred over the weekend.
One student was shot and was taken to Novant Health Rowan Regional Medical Center. The Associated Press reports the student is a male freshman and an athlete at the school.
Police say they're looking for two suspects who fled the scene on foot.
Both Salisbury High School and Livingstone College were placed on lockdowns during the initial investigation, but both have since been lifted.
