VIRGINIA BEACH -- A man was killed when the car he was in struck a parked school bus and a fire hydrant early Saturday morning.
The crash happened around 2:15 a.m. in the 800 block of Northwood Drive.
Police say 32-year-old Thomas Eldon Walker lost control of his 1996 Ford Taurus. it struck the back of a bus, hit the curb and struck a hydrant before coming to a stop at the intersection of Northwood Drive and Meadowbridge Road.
His passenger, 31-year-old Ryan Matthew Ballard, had severe head injuries and died at the scene, police stated.
The driver, Thomas Eldon Walker, was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Walker, who lives in Chesapeake, is charged with DUI and Involuntary Manslaughter.
