VIRGINIA BEACH -- A former youth minister who was indicted in December on five counts of custodial indecent liberties will serve five years behind bars.

On Monday, a Virginia Beach judge sentenced 40-year-old Gregory Douglas Forehand to 15 years in prison- ten years were suspended, leaving five years to serve.

Forehand was accused of abusing three teenagers between June 1, 1999, and Aug. 31, 2006, while serving as youth minister at Real Life Christian Church, according to police and a news release from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

Forehand was first charged in August, 2012 after a 16-year-old boy came forward and accused Forehand of sexually abusing him several times between May 2005 and June 2006 while he was staying at the minister’s home, police said.

Investigators learned children would sometimes stay at Forehand’s home for church events.
