VIRGINIA BEACH -- The key to a 20-year murder mystery in Arkansas could be in Virginia Beach.
A woman was a killed in El Dorado, Arkansas on July 10, 1991. She used the names Cheryl Ann Wick, Sharon Wiley, Kelly Carr, Kelly Karr and Mercedes, but her real name isn't known.
Investigators say she met her boyfriend, James Roy McAlphin, at Whitehall Motel, he dragged her into the parking lot and beat her, then took her into the motel room and shot her in the head.
When she was found, she had items from the Va. Beach Oceanfront such as menus from Worrell Brothers and the Raven.
"There is no telling how long she was in Virginia Beach or if she has family here," police spokeswoman MPO Tonya Borman told WVEC.com. "She may have frequented the Oceanfront area during the mid- to late 1980s."
Police say they learned of the false identity when they tried to notify the family of Cheryl Ann Wick of Minneapolis, Minnesota to learn that Wick was alive and well.
Police say the "Jane Doe" had connections to Dallas, Texas, Shreveport, Louisiana and Little Rock, Arkansas. She was known to work as an exotic dancer and prostitute, according to El Dorado Police.
The woman was between 18-21 years old, about 6 feet tall, weighed 150-160 pounds, had blonde hair, blue eyes, freckles and a birth mark or scar under her left breast. She had brown hair at the time of her death.
McAlphin is in prison.
