VA BEACH -$250,000 is waiting to be claimed by someone who bought a Mega Millions ticket in Va. Beach two days before Christmas.

It was bought at the 7-Eleven at 325 Kellam Road on December 23, 2011. The ticket becomes invalid at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20.

The winning numbers for that drawing were 3-5-8-18-29 and the Mega Ball was 14. The ticket matched the first five numbers and missed only the Mega Ball number.

The person holding the ticket can contact the Virginia Lottery at 757-825-7800 or 804-692-7000.

By law, winning tickets in Virginia expire 180 days after the drawing. If it's not claimed, the money will go to the state Literary Fund to pay for school construction, renovation and teacher retirement funding.

Meantime, a Hampton man claimed his $1,000 a week prize in the Win for Life game on Wednesday afternoon.

Va. Lottery officials gave Grover Carter the ceremonial check at Rennie's on W. Mercury Blvd., the store that sold the winning ticket.

“I looked at the ticket for about 30 minutes,” he told Lottery officials when he realized he'd won . “Then I decided to call my wife.”

He selected the numbers on the ticket using family birthdays.

“It feels great,” he added. “It gives me a little spring in my step!”
