UPDATE 7/28/14: Kendal J. Romer was sentenced to spend 24 years in prison on charges of second degree murder and use of a firearm.
Details from the Commonwealth Attorney:
Kendal Romer shot Mattiele twice and left her body in their bathtub. Romer then called his Navy supervisor and asked if they could meet. The supervisor agreed and offered for Romer to meet at the supervisor’s house. Once Romer arrived there with his 4-year-old daughter, he told his supervisor, “My wife is gone,” and made other statements suggesting that he had killed her. Romer also gave the supervisor his gun, which was later analyzed and determined to be the murder weapon. Romer asked his supervisor to watch his daughter until family members came to get her, because he planned to turn himself to police. Romer then left his supervisor’s home and the supervisor called police.
