VIRGINIA BEACH—It’s a New Year’s Eve love story that dates back 70 years.
Ricardo and Beatrice Mendoza will renew their wedding vows Monday night. After 70 years of marriage, they’re still in love. When they married in the Philippines at age 17 and 18, World War Two was raging.
Ricardo can still recall the first time he met Beatrice. “When I see her inside the house, my heart said I do like that!” he laughed.
They had 11 children and 33 grandchildren, and they moved to Virginia Beach in 1985.
On New Year’s Eve, they’ll say “I do” again at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. “I am so proud to have parents that have gone this long together. Every year, we look forward to celebrating another anniversary,” Antonio Mendoza said.
