VIRGINIA BEACH – A Virginia Beach mother has been found guilty of killing her son.
On Wednesday, Angelica Lee, 46, was found guilty by a Circuit Court judge of voluntary manslaughter.
It happened on August 15, 2009. Lee shot her son, 24-year old Marcus Reese, during an argument at her home on Woodlake Road. Reese died at the hospital.
Lee is charged with first-degree murder and use of a firearm. She will be sentenced on January 4.
The Commonwealth’s evidence proved that Lee invited her son to stay at her home temporarily. The two got into an argument and Lee threw a glass ashtray at Reese, hitting him above the eye. Lee’s other son was home and heard the commotion. He suggested that his brother come to the other room while their mother calmed down.
Shortly after that, according to Commonwealth’s attorneys, they heard Lee rummaging through a drawer in her room and when she opened her door, the victim’s brother saw a pistol in her hand.
As Reese was apparently packing up his things to leave, his brother pleaded with the mother to give up the gun. She refused and ended up shooting Reese in the chest.
When police got to the home, Lee came out of the house carrying the gun and was then taken into custody.
