VIRGINIA BEACH—The men and women ready to respond to emergencies in Hampton Roads were able to enjoy Thanksgiving dinner while on standby.
“I’m excited for Thanksgiving dinner here. It's actually better than having dinner at home,” said rookie Virginia Beach firefighter Stephanie Anderson. She's working the holiday in case anyone needs help.
Amy Valdez has been a firefighter for 16 years. She has been on call many Thanksgivings. “We bring our family members here. As long as the worst doesn’t happen, we’ll have dinner here with our family.
Fire fighter Mike Truitt is known as “Chef.” He cooks most meals at the station, but he is not sweating preparing Thanksgiving for about 30 people. “It’s fun. I enjoy doing it. Plus, I don’t have to clean up.
