VIRGINIA BEACH-- The Va. Beach Hotel-Motel Association wants Oceanfront parking lots to close earlier than they do now.

In a letter dated July 8,  President Joseph DaBiero asked the city to move the time for allowing the last vehicles into parking lots from 12:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.   He also suggested the Virginia Beach Convention Center lots be restricted from access at a designated time when no events are planned.

"The resort area needs a nightly 'sense of closure.'" he wrote.

The letter is a another indication of growing concern over violence at the Oceanfront following College Beach Weekend in April. Police say there were three shootings, three incidents in which a person was cut and three robberies.

A flier promoting another college beach weekend later this month has been circulating on social media and raising concerns about more violence in the resort area.

Some Oceanfront business owners are threatening to close early if the event occurs.

There is no word on how the city might respond to possible changes in parking times.
