*Update: Robert Vance Gallup pleaded guilty and was sentenced Tuesday by Circuit Court Judge Les L. Lilley to 85 years in prison, all suspended except 16 years and 10 months to serve.

Gallup’s sentence for these charges is to run concurrently with a 5-year prison sentence in Suffolk for similar charges involving the same victim.

Gallup has a previous conviction in Suffolk from 1996 for public nudity.

VIRGINIA BEACH -- A retired Virginia Beach firefighter is accused of assaulting a child sexually more than 30 years ago.

Police arrested 60-year-old Robert Vance Gallup of Suffolk May 8, 2013 and charged him with 3 counts of Forcible Sodomy, 3 counts of Taking Indecent Liberties with a Child, and 3 counts of Aggravated Sexual Battery.

Officers said the alleged victim contacted them May 7, 2012. He told them Gallup sexually abused him several times during the mid-1970s and mid-1980s.

Online court records show Gallup also is charged in Suffolk with more than a dozen counts of Forcible Sodomy. Those crimes supposedly took place in the mid-1980s.

In 1995, Gallup faced a charge of Public Nudity after someone saw him mowing his lawn in Whaleyville naked. He paid a fine for that.

Virginia Beach police believe there may be additional victims and they continue their investigation.

Anyone with information about his case or who may have been a victim is asked to call the Detective Bureau at 757-385-4101 and speak with a Special Victims Unit detective.

Gallup, who worked as firefighter in Virginia Beach from the 1980s until early 2000s, is in the Western Tidewater Regional Jail with no bond set. He is scheduled to be in court in Suffolk May 28.
