VIRGINIA BEACH -- A State Trooper was treated for injuries after his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 264 on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for Virginia State Police says that Trooper J.A. Vance was observing traffic on his VSP motorcycle on the should of Interstate 264 east near Independence Boulevard, exit 17.

Around 1:00 p.m. a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier was driving eastbound when it attempted to avoid a slowing vehicle, swerved off the road and struck the trooper's motorcycle.

Trooper Vance was transported to Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital for a non-life threatening injury.

The driver, 23-year-old Jeremy J.D. Evans, was not injured in the crash.

Evans has been charged with reckless driving and cited for defective equipment.

The crash is still under investigation.
