VIRGINIA BEACH - Nicholson Properties withdrew its plans for a warehouse in a Va. Beach neighborhood after a long public hearing before council Tuesday night.

More than a dozen families were fighting the proposed development near their homes.

Nicholson Properties wanted to buy city-owned land and build an office warehouse at 405 Fountain Dr. off Virginia Beach Blvd.   The property that the owner of East Coast Appliances wanted to buy was  zoned for apartments.

“The problem is you have brand new houses out there, so it doesn’t make a lot sense,” Councilman Bill DeSteph said.

Many on council voiced their intentions to vote against the developer, so the proposal was withdrawn.
