VIRGINIA BEACH - Work to remove excess sand that's blocking the channel at Rudee Inlet in Va. Beach is complete.
The build-up occurred during Hurricane Sandy, causing the federal channel to shoal.
The side-cast dredge Merritt began work on Saturday, November 10, to remove about 9,000 cubic yards of sand and placed it near the Atlantic Coast inlet.
The cost of the six-day dredging was approximately $80,000. The city's cost-share was 28% and the federal cost was 72%, according to Kristin Mazur, the Corps' project manager for Rudee Inlet dredging operations.
