VIRGINIA BEACH -- Police reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. that they took a suspect into custody who had barricaded himself in a home.

Va. Beach police officers and members of the SWAT team spent the morning trying to calm 26-year-old Jeffery Adam Mayo, who was described as being distraught over a domestic situation.

Authorities were called to Tattershall Court in the Timberlake area around 2:35 a.m. and negotiations continued until 11:24 a.m.

Mayo is currently being evaluated and warrants have been issued for brandishing a firearm, reckless handling of a firearm and discharging a firearm in public.

For most of the morning, Windsor Oaks Blvd. at Independence Blvd., Windsor Oaks at Glen Willow and Windsor Oaks at Banyan were blocked as a precaution.
