RICHMOND (AP) -- Gov. Bob McDonnell says construction will begin soon on $168 million worth of road and bridge projects in Virginia.
The projects include the widening of Lynnhaven Parkway in Virginia Beach. The $19 million project will build an additional lane in each direction of Lynnhaven Parkway and create a connection between Chesapeake and Virginia Beach. This will be done by bridging a canal located between Centerville Turnpike and Indian River Road. After construction, Lynnhaven Parkway will be a continuous four-lane divided roadway. The project is expected project completion is fall 2016.
McDonnell says the Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded the projects to contractors on Thursday.
