VIRGINIA BEACH -- For 6 years, taking Pungo Ferry Road to Blackwater Road in Creeds has been part of Allen Liem's early morning commute. Wednesday, to start, was no different, but by the time Liem hit the intersection, he'd be in trouble.
"He, actually, got me out of the car. He grabbed me and broke buttons off of my shirt, and as he was pulling me out of the car," recalled Liem, "I could feel his hand in my back pocket."
Liem told 13News the attacker grabbed his wallet. In the process of being pulled from his van, Liem either hit his head on the door frame or the robber hit him with a stick. The end result was a mild concussion that left Liem with headaches throughout the day.
"I was scared to death. I was scared to death. I've never, that's the reason, one of the reasons we moved out here is 'cause it's so calm, peaceful," said Liem. "I was not prepared for something like that, and it just, literally, scared the bejeezus out of me."
Liem explained he pushed at the attacker to get away from him. The robber dropped Liem's wallet, which had no money in it, before running into the woods.
Virginia Beach police officers brought dogs to the scene in an effort to find the attacker, but they turned up no one.
"I'm just wondering if he wasn't intoxicated and looking for his next bottle, or his next meal, or whatever may be, but I hope the guy's okay," Liem shared. "I'm fine. It caused me a little anguish, but I'm doing fine."
Liem said the attacker dressed in black with a hoodie helping to cover his face. Liem described him as at least 6 feet tall, weighing about 200 pounds.
