VIRGINIA BEACH--A man was hit Sunday while crossing the street.  It happened on Independence Blvd. near Town Center.

Virginia Beach MPO Walter Wallace said the driver of a blue Dodge Viper was going northbound on Independence Blvd., and passed Columbus Street. Wallace said the pedestrian was in his twenties and was in the median waiting to cross the street.

"This is Town Center, a pedestrian rich environment. People love to park their cars and walk to wherever they want to go," said Wallace.

Wallace said the car came across the median and plowed into the man.

"He was in the second lane from the curb line on that side of the roadway. Once he lost control he spun sideways, counter clockwise and as he came across the median he struck the pedestrian, "said Wallace.

The victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation.

"The primary investigator is going to be in contact with the Commonwealth's Attorney and the charges are going to be pending based upon what the driver told the primary investigator," said Wallace.
