VIRGINIA BEACH- Work began Thursday night at Lynnhaven Mall in Va. Beach on a multi-million dollar makeover.
The work will update the interior of the shopping center with new tile flooring, energy-efficient lighting, soft seating areas, interior signage and updated restrooms. The paint job will give the 32-year-old complex a contemporary, beach feel.
"We look forward to creating many exciting changes to our center in order to meet the expectations and needs of our shoppers and retailers," General Manager Michael Harris said in a news release.
To minimize inconvenience, most of the renovation will be done when the stores are closed, he added.
Mayor Will Sessoms said, "Lynnhaven Mall has been an anchor in Virginia Beach’s economy for more than 32 years – a huge economic engine for the city and the region. These changes will keep the mall fresh and vibrant for years to come. I can’t wait to see how it turns out."
The project is expected to be completed by the Christmas holiday season in 2014.
