VIRGINIA BEACH -- A natural gas leak in an eight-inch line that led Virginia Beach Emergency Services to order the evacuation of everyone in an area several blocks large in the vicinity of the intersection of Centerville Road and Lynnhaven Parkway has been sealed.

The leak incident happened  at Beaufain Blvd and Styron Lane at around 3:18 p.m.

According to a spokesperson, they ordered mandatory evacuations along Blue Knob Road and Bizzone Circle.

Centerville Turnpike and Lynnhaven Parkway were shut down at their intersection.

They also tested at Magnolia Apartments along Lynnhaven Parkway to determine if that area also needed to be evacuated.

The spokesperson said they used reverse 9-1-1 calls to alert residents in the area to inform them.

At about the same time, the city experienced problems withtheir enhanced 9-1-1 system, as well as their non-emergency numbers. That problem is also being resolved.
