VIRGINIA BEACH -- Police say they arrested the person who shot and killed a boxer at the Oceanfront July 23.

Eric Levon Davis Jr., 22, of Hampton, is charged with the murder of Cordaro Simpkins.

Police said Simpkins was with some friends on 18th Street around midnight. Someone in his group got into a fight with somebody in another group. Officers believe that during the encounter, Davis pulled a gun.

"I don't think I have no words for him. I'm gonna be honest with you," said Simpkins' father, Daniel Lamb, following Davis' arrest.

"He probably couldn't even tell you my son name," Lamb told 13News. "If I asked him why, he probably wouldn't even be able to tell me. I don't have no words for him. I'm gonna let the law do what they got to do, and whatever happens gonna happen."

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the murder.

Davis is in the Virginia Beach Correction Center.
