VIRGINIA BEACH (AP) -- About 300 Christmas trees will be given to members of the military free of charge in Va. Beach this week.
The Navy says the distribution of trees to junior enlisted military families will begin on a first-come-first served basis Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Sandpiper Recreation Center at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story. Trees will be available to all active duty personnel and family members starting Dec. 8.
It's the 9th annual Trees for Troops - a program of the Christmas SPIRIT Foundation in conjunction with FedEx Corporation.
Worldwide, about 17,000 Christmas trees will be delivered for military families at more than 60 bases in the U.S. and overseas.
The trees are provided as part of the Trees to Troops Program. The program is a partnership between more than 750 tree growers and retailers in 28 states and the FedEx Corporation.
