VIRGINIA BEACH--Four Sailors from the USS Bataan and three civilian instructors from the Center for Security Forces were injured Monday when their rigid hull inflatable boat collided with the USNS Big Horn. 

The accident happened during a small boat training exercise near Thimble Shoals Channel off of Va. Beach.   

The exercise was being conducted in support of a Visit, Board, Search & Seizure Boat Crew Course.

Six of the injured personnel were transported by ambulance to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.

One Sailor was treated at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek. 

Two of the Sailors have been released from the hospital. One Sailor remains in the hospital for observation.

The status of the three civilians was not available Monday night. All injuries were considered not life threatening.

A safety investigation into the incident is underway
