VIRGINIA BEACH -- With the approach of summer, it's time to make a big splash - for people and their pets.

It's all about the dogs this weekend at the 5th Annual Pet Lovers Extravaganza and DockDogs competition. It takes place April 27-29 at Care-A-Lot Pet Supply on Diamond Springs Road in Va. Beach.

DockDogs features jumping, soaring and retrieving contests. The dogs run to the end of a ramp chasing a thrown object and then jump into a pool to retrieve it.

“Because this DockDogs is a nationally sanctioned competition, some of the top performers from up and down the East Coast will enter,” says Bobby Clarke. “But rookies shouldn’t be intimidated. Your pet might be a DockDog ace too, and any dog that is healthy and vaccinated is welcome to enter.”

There will be onsite registration an hour before each day’s competition begins and a practice period for novices.

”For the first time, the event will include High Flying Frisbee Dogs called K9's in Flight. All of these K9s were rescued from the streets or adopted from shelters around the country. The show emphasizes the critical need for pet adoption.

Admission is free.
