VIRGINIA BEACH - A shopping center could be going up near Sandbridge in Va. Beach.

The 11-acre site at 2101 Princess Anne Road is currently zoned agriculture.  That land is the last piece of the Hill Family Farm, once 500 acres in what's now known as Hill's Corner.

Developer Armada Hoffler wants the city to rezone the land to business so it can build a strip mall. The 10,000 square-foot strip mall would have a Harris Teeter grocery store and other businesses.

Some people who live near the site oppose the project.

"Their proposal fails to meet the objectives and the intent of the Transition Area Design Guidelines," said Diana Hicks. who wrote a letter to commissioners. "It fails to follow the directive of the City's Comprehensive Plan."

A public meeting was held in Council Chambers.
