VIRGINIA BEACH --The Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel Commission voted to approve a resolution to increase the toll schedule by approximately 10% on Tuesday.
The new toll schedule will become effective on January 1st.
The toll rate adjustment is necessary to help fund the construction of the Thimble Shoal Parallel Tunnel Project that has already been approved by the commission.
According to the release, the new toll rate schedule utilizes a peak season pricing methodology and includes additional round trip discounting for other classes of vehicles to minimize the impact on local citizens.
The proposed round trip rate for passenger vehicles only increases by $1 and the recently approved $5 commuter rate (30 one-way trips in 30 days) is preserved.
