VIRGINIA BEACH-Four Va. Beach police officers were treated for possible smoke inhalation after they responded to a house fire early Friday.

An officer on patrol saw smoke in the Lynnhaven area around 2:00 a.m. and went to investigate. He and three officers who responded found the fire at 725 South Lynnhaven Rd.

According to spokesman Brian Taylor, the officers tried to notify people inside about the fire. The four people escaped and weren't hurt; the Red Cross is helping them.

It took about 30 minutes to put the fire out. Now, investigators are working to determine what caused it.

As for the officers, they voluntarily went to be check out as a precautionary measure and were released, said police spokeswoman Tonya Borman.
