Woman found dead
VIRGINIA BEACH-- A Virginia Beach man was sentenced Monday for the 2012 murder of his ex-girlfriend.
James Miller, 47, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the first degree murder of Irene Teague.
Teague was found dead outside the Barberton Apartments on Barberton Court around 4:30 a.m on August 6, 2012.
According to prosecutors, Teague and Miller began to argue and Miller told Teague to wait right there because he, “had something for her.” Miller then went into his apartment, got a pair of shears, then punched and kicked Teague.
Prosecutors said Miller then stabbed Teague multiple times with the shears.
"I came outside where all the cops were and you could see the woman's body plain as day. It was really gruesome," Brian Wise, who lives at the complex, told 13News Now after the murder.
After the attack, Miller ran from the scene, throwing the shears over a nearby bridge. The police tracked and chased Miller through the help of a K-9 unit.
Miller was arrested in the 300 block of 16th Street and was treated for bites he received from the police K-9.
According to prosecutors, Miller admitted to homicide detectives that he kicked and stabbed Teague.
