VIRGINIA BEACH -- Officials said a lightning strike caused a condo fire on Kingbird Lane Monday afternoon.

Anne Christian, the owner of the home, was inside the condo when the lightning hit the attic.

"I felt like it was sitting on top of the house and all of a sudden there was a humongous loud burst," said Christian.

Christian told 13News Now she smelled smoke a few minutes after, and she ran out of the house and called 911.

It took fire crews a little more than half an hour to put out the flames.

Christian’s dog made it out with her.

Although it will take a little work to repair her home, damage is something with which Christian can deal.

"The thought that went through my mind was ‘I'm really glad I'm not outside' because you always hear about people getting struck by lightning,” Christian said.
