VIRGINIA BEACH--Business owners along Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach are hoping rumors of Beach Party 2 prove to be untrue.
There were tens of thousands of people at the Oceanfront for College Beach Weekend in April. In one night there were three shootings, a stabbing, several robberies, an assault and an argument in which two people were injured by a thrown bottle, police said.
A flier for another party event, similar to College Beach Weekend, started making the rounds on social media recently.
Virginia Beach police said Friday, they will have a greater presence this weekend. Chief James Cervera told 13 News Now they have a plan.
"We will have many more police officers patrolling the Oceanfront area. Then, if we see the event is not developing, we can be flexible to adjust accordingly," said Cervera.
There has been social media chatter about this weekend. Local residents have expressed fear in emails to 13News Now.
"I want to assure everyone that the Oceanfront will be a safe place this weekend," Cervera said.
