VIRGINIA BEACH-- A fire at a Virginia Beach apartment complex left two people injured and caused damage to 12 apartments.

The fire started at the 500 block of Pine Song Lane around 3:15 a.m. on Sunday morning.

One woman sustained burns that covered 40% of her body and one man has a broken leg after jumping out of a window.

A fire official told WVEC.com that the fire was ruled an accident, however the fire started when someone tossed "smoking materials" over their second floor balcony.

The American Red Cross is helping the victims who are left without a home.
