VIRGINIA BEACH - Two Va. Beach schools were on lockdown for about an hour Wednesday morning because police were searching for a person who ran from them.

Va. Beach Police say they tried to pull someone over in the 500 block of S. Lynnhaven Blvd. around 10:30 a.m. and the person bail out of the vehicle.

The pursuit was in the area of Lynnhaven Elementary School and Plaza Middle School, so officials put them on external lockdown. Officials explained that in an external lockdown, all exterior doors are locked and a sign is posted at the main entrance. If the situation allows, parents will be admitted to the school after showing proper identification.

By noon, the lockdown had been lifted and police were continuing the search.

Officers stressed there was no threat against either school.

Police did not release information suspect or why the person was being pulled over.
