*Update: The driver of the tractor trailer, 56-year-old Manuel Silvester Wiggins of Gates, North Carolina, was charged with driving on the wrong side of the roadway.  Officials say  the accident occurred because the trailer portion of the 18-wheeler crossed the center line as both vehicles entered a sharp curve in the roadway traveling in opposite directions.

SUFFOLK-An 18-wheeler log truck and Suffolk school bus collided early Tuesday, sending the bus into the ditch.

The bus, with three children aboard, was headed to Southwestern Elementary School when the accident occurred just before 8:00 a.m. at Buckhorn Drive and Holland Road, spokeswoman Bethanne Bradshaw told WVEC.com.

The children are okay and were transferred to another bus to go on to school, she stated.

The bus driver was taken to the hospital to be treated for cuts from breaking glass.

The accident closed the 1100 block of Buckhorn Drive for about a 90 minutes.

The crash is under investigation.
