SUFFOLK, VA -- Over 80 residences in the Bennett's Pasture area of the city are without power after what the city is describing as a series of transformer fires.
According to a news release, Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to several transformer fires in the northern part of the City beginning at about 5:00 p.m. after being advised that the Bennett’s Pasture Road to Lee Farm Lane area, crossing over to Bridge Road, was without power and that a power line was down across U.S. Rte. 17.
When Dominion Virginia Power arrived on the scene, they determined that initially one power line burned in half due to a tree limb dropping on it. This then caused a chain reaction for approximately three miles with a total of five transformers sparking or on fire, and two lines down. There are currently approximately 84 residences without power.
There were no injuries and traffic was slightly disrupted as a result of the transformer fires and downed lines.
